Now reading: Jhumpa Lahiri's Interpreter
of Maladies and Henry Green's Loving. Quite
excellent. My favorite book so far this semester? Edward
Larson's Summer for the Gods - it gives you an amazing and
enlightening perspective on the true circumstances of the Scopes Trial, as
opposed to the "Inherit the Wind" story with which we are all so
familiar. For example, did you know that the trial was nothing more
than a media stunt? For details on this and more, please check out
the book.

As you should know if you already
know me, I rejoice in literature of all sorts. I've just finished The
Assistant by Bernard Malamud with my class, General Education 105: The
Literature of Social Reflection. Some other books I have read so far
in the class that I recommend include Invisible Man, short stories
by Raymond Carver, and Let Us Now Praise Famous Men I often
find myself absorbed in all of my History of Science books. Of
course, I always purchase MANY more books than I can read. But, alas, I am
a glutton for these large heavy piles of paper. I am often tempted
to purchase books because of the texture of their covers -- but I don't go
that far.
In addition to reading literature, I have
recently been trying to research mehndi artwork, something that I have dappled in for a
number of years. If you like, see some mehndi and India-related
books that I recommend. And of course I love books in addition to
these -- the Harry Potter Series, The Brothers Karamazov, anything by
Madeleine L'Engle or E. L. Konigsburg or Maurice Sendak.
